Installing RadioDJ v2.0.0 the easy way

RadioDJ V2

We know it can be daunting and scary installing radio automation software for the first time.

Especially if you aren’t used to using software that requires a database, but don’t panic it’s not as difficult to setup as you might think.

If you follow these easy steps and have a bit of patience then you should have the program up and running in no time.

1) Starting off with a fresh clean install of your Windows operating system is usually a good bet.

(But not essential)

Important: You may experience issues if you have a system clogged up with junk files they can slow performance down. Use a piece of software to remove junk files and repair the registry. You will find them on Google.

Don’t forget to backup files/databases/program settings IF you decide to reformat Windows.

Once you’ve reinstalled/cleaned Windows junk files and downloaded & installed all required security patches/updates/drivers for your PC then you can begin the process of installing and configuring RadioDJ.

2) Make sure you turn off the UAC (User Account Control)

UAC

Tip: Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change user account control settings

We have ours set at the lowest level so it never interferes with the smooth running of RadioDJ.

3) Download Maria DB and then follow the steps in this Tutorial about installing Maria DB.

If you have MariaDB/MySQL installed already then skip this step.

To check to see if Maria DB has installed without any errors mysqld.exe should now be running as a service. You can check that via task manager.

(Right click on task bar to open task manager or the start button in Windows 10)

If the SQL server is running and working then it’s time to move onto configuring RadioDJ.

4) Make sure you have .NET (At least .NET 4.6.1 is required) Installed

Please Note: We have had reports that .NET 4.6.1 won’t install on Windows XP, without it you will NOT get RadioDJv2 working, Time to upgrade to a newer or even second hand PC running Windows 7/8/10

Windows 10 should automatically install this for you when you go to open a .NET program. Once that’s installed you can move on to the next step.

5) Download the RadioDJ executable and install to C:\RadioDJv2

6) Inside the RadioDJ program folder you will find a folder called “Setup” inside that folder there is a file called “databaseSetup.exe” right click and open as “administrator” you should be on this screen.

Enter the details for your SQL server.

MySQL server = 127.0.0.1 or just localhost.
MySQL database = Usually this is just “radiodj” (You can call it what you like)
MySQL username = Default user is usually “root” (Don’t use root for requests)
MySQL password = The password you chose when setting up the SQL server.

SSL is for MySQL 8.0 you do not need this option if you are using older versions of MySQL

7) Click on “Install database” and the database should now be installed without any errors. If you entered the details correctly you should then see “MySQL server online”

If the database has installed correctly and RadioDJ opens without errors then you should be good to start importing tracks into RadioDJ.

Important: If upgrading from v1.8.2 you will need to run the SQL Update file using the database setup tool you need the 1.8.2 TO 2.sql update file located in the SQL folder inside the setup folder.

Important: Backup your database before making any changes!

8) On first run make sure you set a sound card (Options> Options> Sound cards) otherwise you will get .NET errors popping up. You will need to restart RadioDJ for sound card changes to take effect.

RadioDJ soundcards

Also you need to give yourself an administrator account from the users menu Options>Users

Default login for RadioDJ v2.0.0 is admin/admin but you can change that quite easily. Remember to write down your username and password as the password is encrypted in the database.

Don’t forget to click on the save icon at the bottom to make changes to user accounts, This should help stop people tampering with your RadioDJ settings.

You can also disable user management if you don’t require it.

9) Left click on the radiodj.exe icon in the RadioDJ folder and send to your desktop as a shortcut. (If the installer hasn’t already created one)

Then start the program from the desktop as you would any other Windows executable program. (Make sure it’s running as “Administrator”)

10) If all has gone to plan you should now be able to start enjoying a stress free radio automation experience!

Tip: For optimum performance Its a good idea if you also add the RadioDJ program folder to the exclusion list of Windows Defender and your Antivirus software (If you use any)

If it’s your first time using RadioDJ you’ll need to Import tracks into RadioDJ. You can do that from the options menu by selecting either track/directory import.

Tip: In order to get rotations, playlists and events from v1.8.2 to work in v2.0.0 you will have to go in and manually refresh/update them.
